








NVFC WILDLAND SYMPOSIUM HELD IN SOUTH DAKOTA MARCH 17-18, 2023
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is excited to host the inaugural Regional Wildland Symposium on March 17-18 in Box Elder, SD (right outside of Rapid City). This classroom-based training will focus on wildland fire mitigation and response in the Plains region.

KSFFA is Requesting Proposals from Individuals/Entities to provide the following services to allow KSFFA to apply successfully and manage a successful application for a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Services (SAFER) Grant. Upon receipt of notification of a successful Grant application, the successful individual/Entity is to institute a program to administer and manage the ongoing operations of the grant.

First Responders Wellness Classes Offered
The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center reached out to KSFFA to share these Health and Wellness opportunities with KSFFA and Kansas fire department members. The Wellness classes are for all first responders on various topics with varying dates and locations. The class dates range from later this week up to January 2023.

Fatality Fires in Kansas on Pace to Surpass 2021 Numbers
Over the past three days, the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has investigated four fatality fires in Northeast Kansas. There was one in Shawnee County on Friday, one in Jackson County on Sunday, and two in Pottawatomie County, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. All were unrelated. This year alone, our office has investigated 90 fires with 13 of them being fatal. While last year, at this time, we had investigated 43 fires, and there were 20 fatality fires for the entire year.
